If you're looking for a unique and luxurious outdoor experience near Arches and Canyonlands National Park, I've discovered the best way to allow you to immerse yourself in nature, while still enjoying the conveniences of modern life and it’s an easy drive from Arizona.
Admittedly, I'm not a big fan of traditional camping at all. The physical set up, walking to shared toilets, dealing with critters and bugs...yeah, that's a bit too much for me. But Glamping? Glamping takes away all the inconveniences and discomforts of traditional camping and replaces them with luxury and comfort. Instead of struggling to set up a tent and sleeping on uncomfortable sleeping bags or air mattresses, glamping allows you to sleep in a real bed with soft bedding. You can even choose to have your own private sink, toilet, and shower, eliminating the need to walk to communal facilities (thank you running water) and offers you a luxurious and comfortable alternative to traditional camping while still allowing you to enjoy the beauty of nature while indulging in modern amenities and comforts. And Under Canvas does it right!
The Moab Under Canvas location is the perfect destination for anyone seeking a unique and adventurous experience. Situated just 7 miles north of both Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park, it offers easy access to these iconic natural wonders making the proximity to these parks an ideal basecamp for outdoor enthusiasts looking to explore and immerse themselves in the beauty of Utah's desert landscape.
Upon arrival at Moab Under Canvas, we were warmly welcomed by the friendly staff in their main “Lobby”, who provided us with a tour of the grounds. This large tent serves as a central hub and is open 24 hours a day, offering a variety of amenities and activities for guests to enjoy. The staff even provided us with a tour of the property and even offered to transport our luggage to our tent, making the check-in process hassle-free (There are parking spots close to your tents; however, you may need to walk a bit on a dirt path to get to where your space is located. Not as bad as roller bags on Italian streets but can be a challenge if you have large bags).
While this particular Under Canvas doesn’t have an eatery on site, Grab 'n Go snacks were available, allowing you to quickly and conveniently satisfy your hunger before or during your adventures. And with town being an easy drive away, there were plenty of food options to choose from in Moab. Additionally, the communal tent provides complimentary hot beverages such as coffee, tea, hot chocolate, hot cider, and s'mores, and even water bottles, allowing guests to indulge and relax in a cozy atmosphere or take their drink on the road.
Complementary camp activities were also available for guests to enjoy. These activities, like yoga (Lululemon mats are available), provide entertainment and a chance to connect with other guests while immersing yourselves in the natural beauty of the surroundings. For those who enjoy outdoor dining, a picnic area and grills were available for you to use, as well as a communal fire pit for social gatherings and s’mores or you can even grab a board game to have some fun with family or meet fellow travelers.
The tents at Moab Under Canvas provide a perfect balance between luxury and the rustic ambiance of camping and are designed to give you a comfortable and cozy experience, with real beds and bedding that make you feel like you're in a hotel room rather than a traditional tent.
The attention to detail and the inclusion of amenities like towels and robes add an extra touch of luxury and we were delighted to discover that a wide range of amenities were included in our experience and are designed to enhance your comfort and ensure a memorable stay. In terms of personal care, Under Canvas Moab provided organic bath products and these high-quality products allowed us to indulge in a refreshing and eco-friendly experience while not needing to worry about packing extra toiletries. The inclusion of West Elm furnishings added a touch of style and comfort to our tent and the attention to detail in the design and decor of the accommodations elevated our overall experience.
The accommodations at Moab Under Canvas vary in terms of bathroom facilities. The Suite, Stargazer, and Deluxe tents have private bathrooms, providing convenience and privacy. On the other hand, the Safari tent utilizes a shared bathhouse. However, our experience was comfortable as our cabin had a regular flushing toilet and a hot water shower. To take a shower, you need to hold the chain, but the effort is well worth it for the comfort it provides plus I felt it added to the rustic charm of it all.
One unique aspect of Moab Under Canvas is the intentional lack of Wi-Fi, allowing guests to truly disconnect from the outside world and immerse themselves in the peace and beauty of their surroundings, encouraging a focus on nature, self-reflection, and connection with loved ones. By unplugging from technology, guests can unwind and appreciate the natural beauty of the area. Whether you're an avid hiker, climber, or mountain biker, Moab Under Canvas provides the perfect retreat for adventure seekers. The towering plateaus, majestic sandstone cliffs, and incredible geologic formations of Utah's desert landscape are all within reach. Exploring these natural wonders during the day and returning to the comfort and luxury of the glamping accommodations at night creates a truly unforgettable experience.
Instead of reaching for your phone, take the opportunity to unwind and enjoy some quality time with your companions. Consider packing games to play in your tent or on your porch overlooking the beautiful scenery, for a friendly (or competitive) experience. Alternatively, bring along a bottle of wine and enjoy it on your porch as you watch the sun set below the horizon (Moab does have a local winery, for an fun excursion off the beaten path).
It's also important to note that the tents at Moab Under Canvas do not have electricity. However, Under Canvas provides battery packs for guests to use with rechargeable lanterns and fans. These battery packs can be swapped out for fresh ones, ensuring that you have ample power throughout your stay. This is especially useful during the summer evenings when having fully charged fans can make a significant difference in comfort.
We were particularly impressed with the exceptional customer service provided by the staff at Under Canvas Moab. They were prompt, friendly, and helpful, going above and beyond to ensure our needs were met. Whether it was providing us with water and ice to combat the June heat or simply being attentive to our requests, the staff's dedication to customer satisfaction was evident throughout our stay.
From the range of amenities and the outstanding customer service, staying at Under Canvas Moab made this trip a truly enjoyable and memorable experience.
