Your Table Is Waiting
July 31 – August 9, 2026
There are a lot of reasons people leave Arizona in the summer.
It's hot. Really hot.
The patios empty out, vacations begin, and many of our favorite restaurants settle into what is often the quietest season of the year.
But I've always thought summer is one of the best times to eat here.
Not because it's cooler (it's definitely not), but because it's when the people behind Arizona's restaurants remind us why we fell in love with them in the first place.
Arizona Chef's Week feels like a love letter to those chefs.
For ten days, restaurants across the Valley put together menus that tell their story in just a few courses. It's a chance to experience the dishes they're excited about, the ingredients they're inspired by, and sometimes even the flavors that never quite make it onto the regular menu.
Maybe that's why I smiled this year when I realize it happens to fall during my birthday week.
It feels less like a coincidence and more like the universe saying, "Go make another reservation."
And honestly...it doesn't take much convincing.
One look through this year's menus and I was already mentally planning my week.
At Brasserie Melrose, there's a delicate heirloom tomato tart followed by filet mignon with a crab croquette before ending with a vanilla rum canelé.
INDIBAR is offering everything from white tomato shorba and chef's tasting platters to passion fruit kulfi and a piña colada-inspired dessert that sounds like summer on a plate.
Over at Virtù Honest Craft, Chef Gio is doing what he does best, turning classic Italian comfort into something memorable with dishes like polpette, scampi, baked rigatoni, and piccata.
Belmont Kitchen & Cocktails has me thinking about carbonara ravioli, miso black cod, and a vanilla bean profiterole.
ZuZu somehow makes it impossible to choose between steak frites, pork belly tocino, or a brookie for dessert.
And then there are menus that immediately made me stop scrolling.
The duck breast at Espiritu Mesa.
The peach toast and chocolate tiramisu at Fire at Will.
The summer grilled salad and smoked duck breast at Filthy Animal.
The carrot tartare at Tarbell's.
The date cake at Hush Public House.
Each menu feels different because each chef has a different story to tell.
That's what I love most about Arizona Chef's Week.
It isn't about everyone doing the same thing.
It's about celebrating the personalities that make our dining scene so interesting.
Some of my favorite restaurants are participating this year, including Vecina, Latha, The Neighborly, Quiessence at The Farm, Pinyon, House Brasserie, The Gladly, Shimogamo, Wren & Wolf, and so many others. Some are places where I've celebrated milestones. Some introduced me to ingredients I'd never tried before. Others have become the restaurants I recommend without hesitation whenever someone asks, "Where should we eat?"
If you've followed EatLoveTravelPlay for a while, you'll probably recognize many of those names.
There's a reason for that.
These aren't restaurants I visited once.
They're places I've returned to because they consistently make people feel welcome, cared for, and inspired.
That's especially important this time of year.
Summer is traditionally one of the hardest seasons for independent restaurants in Arizona. While many of us travel or stay closer to home, dining rooms become a little quieter. Arizona Chef's Week gives us a chance to fill those tables again, celebrate the people behind them, and discover somewhere new along the way.
So whether you're finally booking that reservation you've been putting off, revisiting an old favorite, or taking a chance on somewhere you've never been before, I hope you'll spend a few evenings around a table this week.
Because the best memories usually don't begin with a destination.
They begin with someone saying "I made us a reservation."
