After 4 flights in 4 days, I was peacefully tucked into my seat, nibbling on my cheese plate, sipping my wine, and on my way via American Airlines to Cabo for a few days of unplugged relaxation.
Ok....lets be real....I was on my way to a few days of non-stop, go-go-go fun. After meeting our friend in the airport in Cabo, we jumped into the comfortably equipped Tahoe and headed to the hotel....after a quick stop at Costco to stock up for the trip (my Costco pit stop is a habit, and it’s a must every time I land in Maui too).
As we walk through the open reception area of The Cape, a Thompson Hotel, you are blown away by the raw beauty of its location. The hotel is nestled on a point, where you are greeted by the constant crashing of powerful waves and an unsurpassed view of the famous Arch of Cabo.
After a warm welcome, we are escorted to our rooms. And oh my....between the view, the welcome tequila, the daybed (oh, you and I are going to spend some time together) and the bathtub (rub-a-dub tub!), everything is beautifully appointed and screams "Welcome to your luxurious getaway". This place is just what this girl needed to wash away some of the recent stress.
Our first night in Cabo, we had reservations at Flora Farms. This place is a delightful oasis in what seems like the middle of nowhere. If you love farm to table, it's a MUST. (Make sure to secure reservations!)
While you wait for your table, enjoy an amazing cocktail at the bar, peruse one of their adorable shops, or grab some goodies from their farm store (I picked up a few items for friends back home). While I didn't have a picture of it, the Shank became the highlight of the weekend (Both in taste and in humor. The table ordered just a few too many and Shank became the theme of the weekend, with us living off the leftovers over the next several days).
I highly recommend the dining experience here (for me, I'm a huge lover of risotto and theirs definitely did NOT disappoint).
Of course, no tropical vacation is complete without cocktails in the pool and visits to local beach bars (especially The Office).
Back to the Hotel (all my 90's people....try to get that song out of your head now) where the drink and dining options do not disappoint at The Cape.
I started each day at The Ledge, nibbling on the delicacies of the Cold Bar which provides limitless options to build your own fantastic charcuterie plate, fresh baked goodies like Pain au Chocolat, fruit, yogurt, and fresh juices to wet your thirst (I literally couldn't start my day without their green juice, its that good).
Dinner at Manta is an epic experience. If you are with large group like we were, you will end up with a seemingly endless supply of family style dishes (Bring your appetite!).
The Rooftop provides not only spectacular views, but live music and dancing (always fun on a Saturday night!) and the Glassbox ended up being a great spot to catch the Belmont Stakes and celebrate the Triple Crown win with a glass of whiskey (Way to go Baffert, Mike Smith and Justify!).
And lets not forget that spectacular infinity pool with swim up bar and impeccable views of the Arch.
Did I mention those sunsets?? (Sigh)
Adventuring into town, we enjoyed not only amazing company, but a fantastic and entertaining dinner at Ediths one night, music at The Nowhere Bar as a nightcap, and amazing italian food our last night in Cabo (I know...you wouldn't think Italian in Mexico, but trust me....from the atmosphere to the food itself, Romeo y Julieta is a WIN! The table made Caesar is to die for, not to mention the Mezzelune Di Ricotta e Spinachi with walnut, butter and sage sauce. I can't believe I lost that picture but trust me folks...its amazing .)
The champagne was flowing, as was the 1942 Don Julio, laughter was abundant, and I think we can all agree, this trip was special. We were all brought together, this delightful mishmash of personalities, to celebrate not only birthdays but life, love, and new friendships, and while it was sad to leave, I left feeling like my village got a little bigger, and my heart felt a bit more healed. Already I've planned a return for next year, in this case, to celebrate my daughter's 21st birthday. Look out Cabo.....we are coming back!
